Karachi: (RightNow) Pakistan’s oil tankers and contractors have given the government a 72-hour ultimatum. If their demands are not met, a nationwide strike will be initiated, holding the Ministry of Petroleum and OGRA responsible.

Oil Tankers Chairman Abidullah Afridi stated that the lack of fare increases has caused difficulties. Meanwhile, motorway and NHA toll taxes have increased by 180%, necessitating a corresponding fare hike.

He further mentioned that negotiations have been ongoing for the past 1.5 years, but OGRA has made no progress. If demands are not accepted, oil tankers across Pakistan will come to a halt.

It is noteworthy that the Petroleum Association in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has already started an indefinite strike. As a result, many petrol pumps in the province are fully or partially closed.

It is important to note that the government took steps in the pipeline project without consultation, affecting the transport sector. Additionally, petrol pump owners’ margins have not increased in the past eight years.
