Kinshasa: (RightNow) A new monkey species has been discovered in the forests of Congo’s Lomami National Park. This monkey is distinguished by its pink-orange lips contrasting with its black body.

Experts report that the monkey was first spotted in 2008, but a blurry photo prevented identification. Now, 10 years later, its identity has been confirmed.

An international team of researchers has begun studying this monkey. A PhD student from Florida Atlantic University played a key role in this discovery.

This finding is significant as it marks the fifth new African monkey species discovered in the past 75 years. The research results have been published in the journal PLOS One.
