Electricity production may be affected by water shortages, with rising global fuel prices.
Islamabad: (RightNow) With the onset of winter, electricity consumers may face new challenges. Load shedding and price hikes are anticipated.
According to Power Division sources, water shortages are affecting hydropower production. Electricity prices could increase two to three times under fuel price adjustment from December to February.
Due to reservoir shortages, load shedding is expected to rise in December, January, and February. IRSA estimates water shortages exceed 22%.
Global markets have seen LNG, coal, and other fuel prices reach peak levels. Local gas supply issues may further exacerbate the situation.
It is noteworthy that Middle East tensions have driven up energy prices in Pakistan. Last year, LPG prices increased by Rs 343 per kilogram.
