Pakistan’s new electricity tariff of 27.31 rupees per unit starts January 2027, impacting consumers and the economy.
Islamabad: (RightNow) Pakistan is set to implement a new electricity tariff of 27.31 rupees per unit starting January 1, 2027. The cost of electricity purchase is expected to reach 27.309 rupees per kilowatt-hour in 2027.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency forecasts a total electricity purchase cost of 3.55 trillion rupees for the upcoming tariff revision. These estimates are part of the tariff revision process for consumers of former WAPDA distribution companies.
During this process, the revised basic cost used for determining electricity rates for the new period will be established. Based on this, consumer tariffs will be set.
This increase in electricity rates could impose a financial burden on consumers and impact the national economy.
It is noteworthy that the CPPA’s hearing for the September fuel price adjustment request is scheduled for October 29.
