UK research finds gut bacteria affect brain chemicals, aiding mental health treatment.
London: (RightNow) Scientists have made a significant discovery about the connection between the gut and the brain. Research by the University of Surrey in the UK has found a link between gut bacteria and brain chemicals.
The study revealed that bacteria affect the levels of GABA and Glutamate in different parts of the brain. The research involved 61 healthy women aged between 17 and 25.
Researchers used advanced brain imaging techniques to assess the levels of brain chemicals. They analyzed the genetic metabolic processes of bacteria in stool samples.
This research highlights the importance of gut bacteria’s effects on brain health, potentially aiding in the treatment of anxiety and depression.
It is noteworthy that last year, American research also discovered a direct communication system between gut bacteria and the brain.
