A fire at PIMS Hospital’s nursery in Islamabad killed 15 newborns. An inquiry committee is investigating the cause.
Islamabad: (RightNow) A devastating fire at PIMS Hospital’s nursery resulted in the death of 15 newborns. Hospital officials confirm the fire is under control, with cooling operations ongoing.
Rescue authorities report the fire ignited due to an air conditioner’s compressor explosion. Hospital administration stated that 16 children were present in the nursery at the time of the incident.
According to district administration, the fire broke out on the third floor of the MCH ward. Six fire brigade vehicles and four ambulances participated in the rescue operation.
It is noted that hospital staff, including 2 doctors and 4 nurses, were present during the fire. One doctor managed to save a child, but 15 infants perished.
It is important to note that due to past incidents of child abductions, entry to the ward was restricted. An inquiry committee has been formed to determine the exact causes of the fire.
