Canberra: (RightNow) An Australian court has rejected India’s claim in the Basmati rice trademark case. The court dismissed the appeal by the Indian agency APEDA and ordered them to pay legal costs.
According to the Australian court’s decision, Pakistan’s principled stance has been validated. The court has granted Pakistani exporters equal rights to use the Basmati name.
The Ministry of Commerce has praised this decision, calling it a significant legal victory for Pakistan. Commerce Minister Jam Kamal congratulated the ministry’s team on their success.
This decision is crucial for Pakistani exporters as it allows them to maintain their identity in the global market.
It should be noted that the Indian agency APEDA had applied to register the word Basmati as a certification trademark, which the Australian court has rejected.
