A major electricity theft scandal in MEPCO Multan reveals senior officials’ involvement, with lower staff penalized.
Multan: (RightNow) A major electricity theft scandal involving crores of rupees has surfaced in MEPCO. Due to collusion among senior officials, lower staff faced penalties while top officers remained unscathed.
An illegal 11 kV metering panel was installed in a private colony on Bosan Road. Despite investigations by the Prime Minister’s special team, senior officials retain their positions.
In the MEPCO corruption case, Muhammad Taufiq, Burhan Ali, and Ijaz Ahmed were dismissed. Thirteen employees were demoted, and seven were penalized.
In the MEPCO Bosan Road case, FIA Multan Circle took no action. The burden of stolen units was transferred to consumers.
It is noteworthy that this electricity theft scandal emerged a few months ago. The Prime Minister’s special inquiry team has now completed its investigations.
