Lahore: (RightNow) An ordinance to establish an authority for alternative dispute resolution has been introduced in Punjab. This aims to reduce the burden on courts and ensure timely justice.

According to the ordinance, disputes will be resolved through arbitration, conciliation, and mutual negotiations. Pending court cases can be referred to the authority with the consent of the parties involved. The authority will facilitate resolutions, and the court will issue decisions and decrees.

The authority will employ female arbitrators for disputes involving women. A system for approving arbitrators, centers, and training institutions will be established under the authority.

The resolution process will include family disputes, commercial agreements, and inheritance matters. Parties can mutually select an arbitrator or center, with participation available via video link.

It is noteworthy that the Governor of Punjab has approved the ordinance for 90 days. Following the committee report, the bill will be presented to the assembly for approval and will become law.
