Islamabad: (RightNow) The Senate Standing Committee on Commerce has been informed that due to energy and import costs, Pakistani products have become expensive in the global market. India is exporting cotton while Pakistan is importing it.

According to Express News, the Chairman of the Trading Corporation of Pakistan briefed on export development funds, stating that high costs are hindering Pakistani products from competing globally.

During the meeting, the Minister of Commerce mentioned that Pakistan’s pharma industry has made significant progress in Ethiopia. Negotiations on a free trade agreement with China are ongoing.

The Minister of Commerce stated that exports of rice, sugar, cotton, onions, sesame, and potatoes have significantly decreased. India has provided $5.1 billion in subsidies to its farmers, while Pakistan struggles to compete in global markets.

It is noteworthy that last fiscal year, exports amounted to $30.8 billion, but there has been a decline compared to 2024-25. Pakistan enjoys tax and duty exemptions in the USA, Europe, and the UK.
