Islamabad: (RightNow) President Asif Zardari has approved the appointment of judges in various high courts. According to the Presidential Office, additional judges have been appointed in Lahore, Sindh, Peshawar, Islamabad, and Balochistan high courts.

The Presidential Office’s statement confirms the endorsement of some additional judges as permanent judges in Sindh and Lahore high courts. New judge appointments in Peshawar High Court have also been approved.

President Zardari has signed the summary to align Supreme Court judges’ salaries, allowances, and pensions with constitutional courts. Amendments to the 1997 order regarding high court judges’ leave, pension, and benefits have also been approved.

President Zardari has also approved Haroon Akhtar’s appointment as the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Industry and Production. The bill on child marriage has been signed as well.

It is noteworthy that recent Judicial Commission meetings recommended the appointment of 19 additional judges. These meetings also included recommendations for the permanency of 5 additional judges and the extension of one judge.
