Quetta: (RightNow) The water crisis in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, has intensified. The underground water level has dangerously dropped, and WASA’s supply is partially or completely halted. The tanker mafia is exploiting citizens’ desperation.

In the intense heat, residents from various areas are forced to fetch water from miles away. Elderly, women, and children in areas like Samungli Road and Jinnah Town are affected. Many homes haven’t received water for six months, disrupting daily life.

With WASA’s supply affected, citizens rely on private tankers, paying 3 to 7 thousand rupees per tanker. Despite assurances from authorities, the issue remains unresolved. Citizens claim there is no official rate list.

According to WASA officials, Quetta requires 50 million gallons of water daily, but the agency provides only 30 million gallons. Out of 417 tube wells, 50 are non-functional, worsening the crisis. Illegal tube wells and lack of rainfall are primary causes.

Experts have warned that without immediate action, Quetta could face a severe water emergency in a few years. Citizens demand urgent government intervention and action against the tanker mafia.
