Lahore: (RightNow) Water flow in River Chenab from India has decreased by 21,600 cusecs over 4 days. This issue raises questions about water distribution under the Indus Waters Treaty.

According to WAPDA, water inflow at Head Marala has reduced to 50,300 cusecs. Experts warn that if the situation persists, the agricultural sector could be affected.

The significant water shortage is increasing pressure on Punjab’s canal system and water reservoirs. Officials indicate that electricity production might also face disruptions.

This issue is causing tension between Pakistan and India. Under the Indus Waters Treaty, Pakistan has rights over western rivers, but India’s actions are causing concern.

It is noteworthy that Pakistan has previously raised objections to India’s dams and projects. Pakistan aims to protect its water rights by raising the issue internationally.
