Islamabad: (RightNow) Across the nation, the fifth death anniversary of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Gilani was observed with reverence. His commitment to the right of self-determination in both Azad and occupied Kashmir was remembered.

Syed Ali Gilani spent nearly 7 decades supporting the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. Even in his final moments, he prayed for Pakistan’s security.

Gilani was a member of the occupied Kashmir Legislative Assembly in 1972, 1977, and 1987. He spent the last 11 years under house arrest.

After his death, his body was wrapped in the Pakistani flag and buried. His struggle remains an example for Kashmir’s freedom movement.

It is noteworthy that Syed Ali Gilani passed away on September 1, 2021, during house arrest. On his anniversary, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman paid tribute to his struggle.
