Karachi: (RightNow) The Sindh Cabinet has approved a package for registration and tax relief on electric vehicles. The decision was made in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

The Chief Minister stated that promoting electric vehicles will reduce reliance on imported fuel. The continuation of incentives will increase the use of electric vehicles in the province.

According to the Chief Minister’s spokesperson, tax and registration incentives for non-commercial electric vehicles have been extended for another 2 years. These incentives will remain in effect until May 29, 2028.

The registration fee for electric vehicles is set at Rs 1,000, and a lifetime tax of Rs 500 will be imposed on motorcycles. Luxury tax of Rs 5,000 will apply to vehicles with engines of 2000 cc or more.

It is noteworthy that the incentives for electric vehicles will apply from May 30, 2026, to May 29, 2028, aiming to protect the environment and reduce reliance on imported fuel.
