Islamabad: (RightNow) The National Assembly and Senate have approved the Defense Forces of Pakistan Act 2026. This act aims to define the powers of the Chief of Defense Forces.

According to the approved bill, the Chief of Defense Forces will coordinate among all military branches and oversee strategic matters. He will also monitor key national security issues.

The Chief of Defense Forces will have the authority to retire or dismiss any personnel. He also holds the right to retain employment or grant retirement age exemptions.

It is important to note that under Article 243 of the Constitution, the position of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee has been abolished. A new position, Commander National Strategic Command, has been introduced.

The Chief of Defense Forces will issue orders from time to time. The federal government retains the authority to establish rules and regulations.
