Islamabad: (RightNow) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a cabinet committee meeting on energy, approving amendments to the National Electricity Plan 2023-27.

The meeting included measures on tariffs, electricity savings, digitization, and renewable energy supply to remote areas. Cross-border electricity trade and transmission system expansion are also part of the plan.

The government has directed further consultations with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and NEPRA, while approving the high-level design of an integrated energy plan from 2027 to 2060.

The integrated energy plan aims to ensure energy security and economic competitiveness. Strategies will be developed to provide energy at reasonable rates to industrial and domestic consumers.

It is noteworthy that the cabinet committee was also presented with reports on the circular debts of the power and gas sectors for the fiscal year 2025-26.
