New York: (RightNow) Avoiding three key factors in midlife can help prevent dementia in old age. According to research, maintaining these factors between ages 45 and 65 can improve brain health.

New York University’s study analyzed over 12,000 individuals, including data from those dementia-free at age 55. Researchers examined factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, and smoking.

The health of these individuals was monitored over 26 years. During this period, over 3,000 developed dementia, while 5,200 passed away without being affected by the disease.

The study found that those free from these risk factors experienced a 13-year delay in dementia diagnosis. Women lived longer without dementia compared to men.

It is important to note that avoiding these factors can protect brain health for a longer period. These factors include high blood pressure, diabetes, and smoking.
