Mumbai: (RightNow) A controversy has erupted on social media following the release of the trailer for Indian director Nitesh Tiwari’s new film, Ramayan. Viewers have raised objections to the actresses’ costumes in the film.

The film, with a budget of billions, features Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, and Rakesh Roshan. Social media users have questioned the use of stitched blouses.

Fashion experts state that ancient Indian attire was draped, and stitched blouses are from the British era. Professor Mitali Ambekar noted that this is a modern addition.

Costume designer Nidhi Yasha explained that the costume choices in the film were made thoughtfully. The intricacies of historical attire are not accepted in contemporary society.

It is important to note that there is no authentic reference for the attire from the Ramayan era. Costume designers claim the aim was to maintain the simplicity and dignity of the characters.
