Rome: (RightNow) Italy has temporarily suspended the Schengen Agreement with Spain. This decision follows the entry of a large number of migrants from Morocco into the Spanish city of Ceuta.

Italy’s Ministry of Interior has stated that travelers between the two countries will now need to show passports to enter Italy. This law applies to those traveling by air or sea.

The Spanish cities of Ceuta and Melilla are the only land borders between Europe and Africa where migrants attempt to reach Europe.

This measure comes after 60 thousand Moroccan migrants entered Spain’s North African region of Ceuta yesterday. During this incident, 57 people lost their lives.

It is noteworthy that the Schengen Agreement allows European countries to remove internal borders for free movement.
