Islamabad: (RightNow) Smartphone usage in Pakistan has increased from 62% in 2024 to 72% by June 2026. The Prime Minister has directed further improvements in the country’s digital infrastructure.

A meeting chaired by the Prime Minister reviewed the performance of the Federal Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Law, Minister of Economic Affairs, Minister of Education, and other senior officials.

During the briefing, it was revealed that mobile spectrum availability increased from 274 MHz in June 2025 to 880 MHz in June 2026. This will significantly enhance internet speed and connectivity.

It was also reported that the government has provided fixed broadband connections to 5.1 million homes. IT exports have increased by 21%, reaching $4.6 billion.

It is noteworthy that the Government of Pakistan has initiated artificial intelligence projects under a memorandum of understanding with Alibaba. Training sessions are being conducted across various ministries and departments.
