Islamabad: (RightNow) The Election Commission has released the schedule for new delimitations for local elections in the federal capital. The number of union councils has been increased.

According to the notification issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan, administrative actions for delimitations will be completed from July 22 to July 31, 2026. The initial list of new union councils will be prepared from August 1 to August 25.

Citizens can submit objections to the proposed delimitations from August 27 to September 16, 2026. The Election Commission will make final decisions on these objections by October 1. The final list will be released on October 13, 2026.

The number of union councils has been increased from 125 to 130. The delimitation process will be completed considering this change.

It is important to note that this development is considered a significant step towards holding local elections in the federal capital.
