Lahore: (RightNow) An investigation reveals that trainee doctors in Lahore’s private hospitals are not receiving their stipulated compensation. Sources indicate that most hospitals are paying monthly salaries between 30,000 to 40,000 rupees, while some list higher salaries in contracts but pay less.

Sources have reported that private hospitals are utilizing trainee doctors as cheap medical staff. The Young Doctors Association Pakistan’s complaints prompted the Punjab Healthcare Commission to take notice of the issue.

The Punjab Healthcare Commission has forwarded complaints to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. The commission states that inadequate compensation is causing growing discontent among doctors.

The commission insists that trainee doctors should receive full stipends and benefits as per the law. It is important to note that postgraduate trainee doctors play a crucial role in the healthcare system.
