Lahore: (RightNow) A major crackdown was conducted on a group selling telecom users’ confidential data, following a complaint by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). During the operation, 3 individuals were arrested, and evidence of illegal buying and selling of sensitive information was found.

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency seized five mobile phones, eight Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices, and 43 suspicious SIMs. Important evidence was collected from these devices.

PTA stated that the suspects were selling call data records, location, and IMEI data via WhatsApp. A case has been registered against them, and further investigations are underway.

The significance of this operation lies in ensuring the protection of telecom users’ confidential information, which is a top priority for PTA. Additional measures are being taken to prevent illegal data sales.

It is noteworthy that similar groups have been active in the past, misusing users’ personal data. PTA needs to take steps to prevent such crimes in the future.
