Lahore: (RightNow) Punjab’s local elections are postponed due to smog and fog concerns. The Punjab Local Government Department is considering holding the elections in April 2027 instead of December or January.

The School Education Department suggested changing the election date due to the likelihood of smog and fog from December 15 to January 1. Sources indicate that the Punjab Local Government Department is reviewing this proposal.

The Punjab Local Government Department plans to present the proposal to the Chief Minister in a cabinet meeting. The Election Commission’s schedule for local elections will also be presented at the same meeting.

The final decision depends on the Chief Minister’s approval. Punjab’s Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq confirmed that the Chief Minister will be informed of the proposal.

It is noteworthy that smog disrupts daily life in Punjab during winter, complicating election arrangements.
