Francis Halzen awarded 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics for cosmic particle discovery.
Stockholm: (RightNow) The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has announced the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics, awarded to Belgian scientist Francis Halzen for his discovery of cosmic particles.
The Nobel Committee stated that Halzen played a crucial role at the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. He contributed significantly to the discovery of high-energy neutrinos in astrophysics.
Francis Halzen is currently a professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the United States. He also serves as the director of the Institute for Elementary Particle Physics.
This award is significant as Halzen’s extraordinary idea enabled the discovery of invisible particles in space, leading to the establishment of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory.
It is noteworthy that the Nobel Prize announcements are ongoing. The Chemistry Nobel Prize was announced on October 7, and the Literature Nobel Prize is expected on October 8.
