Peshawar: (RightNow) The federal government announces its decision to challenge the amended Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Act in the Supreme Court. During a press conference in Islamabad, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry stated that the act has been approved by the cabinet and the federation has several options.

Talal Chaudhry revealed that the KP government has affected the entire command by withdrawing the powers of the IG. He accused Chief Minister Suhail Afridi of political interference.

Under the new Police Act, the Chief Minister is granted the authority to formulate operational and financial policies for the police. The Minister of State mentioned that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is fighting a war against terrorism, yet the CTD operates from rented buildings.

He stated that while roads in Islamabad are open, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government appears helpless. He questioned why they do not resign if they feel powerless.

It is noteworthy that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet had approved the new Police Act, which includes the authority to transfer the IG in case of dissatisfaction with performance.
