Peshawar: (RightNow) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet approved the proposed Police Act 2026 on Wednesday. The cabinet meeting agreed on amendments after strong objections to certain clauses.

According to official sources, during the meeting, it was agreed to amend and remove some clauses of the Police Act. Police officers also expressed reservations about certain provisions of the proposed law.

In committee meetings regarding the Police Act, police officials voiced concerns. Cabinet members stated that Imran Khan’s vision was to keep the police free from political interference.

The act proposes changes in police command, appointments of senior officers, and policy-making. It suggests transferring the leadership of the Police Policy Board to the Chief Minister.

It is noteworthy that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is taking steps to improve the police system. According to the provincial law minister, the amendments are not reducing police powers but making the system more effective.
