Muzaffarabad: (RightNow) Dr. Muhammad Najeeb Naqi has been elected as the new President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He took the oath of office today.

In the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Dr. Muhammad Najeeb Naqi received 32 votes, while his opponent Chaudhry Latif Akbar secured 13 votes. Speaker Chaudhry Tariq Farooq also cast his vote.

This election completes the formation of constitutional positions in the new Azad Kashmir government. Previously, Iftikhar Gilani was elected as Prime Minister and Chaudhry Tariq Farooq as Speaker.

It is important to note that Dr. Najeeb Naqi’s election provides representation to the Poonch Division in the state government. His success may strengthen the position of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) in future elections.

Dr. Najeeb Naqi’s political journey began in Sudhanoti, where he was first elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly in 1991. He has also held ministerial responsibilities in various departments.
