Lahore: (RightNow) The Lahore High Court has declared the advertising of tobacco and pan illegal. This decision was made by Justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh before his resignation, concerning cigarette, pan, and tobacco advertising.

The court stated that the federal government’s notification banning such advertising is valid. The court dismissed the petition, assuring that this ban does not pose a risk of illegal trade.

The court acknowledged the government’s stance, stating that advertising tobacco products leads to negative outcomes. Protecting public health is a constitutional requirement, and banning advertisements is necessary.

The significance of the court’s decision lies in prioritizing public health protection. The court clarified that there is no permanent constitutional right to advertise tobacco products.

It is noteworthy that the Lahore High Court also rejected the constitutional objection regarding not approaching the Council of Common Interests. The court found nothing illegal in the government notification.
