Google DeepMind’s CEO warns AI systems may cause severe security issues by 2028, urging governments and companies to act.
Dublin: (RightNow) Google DeepMind’s CEO Demis Hassabis warns that Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems could lead to severe security incidents in the next 2 years. He stated that if companies and governments fail to strengthen safety measures, these systems could cause significant damage.
Hassabis shared at a conference that recent events are early signs of potential major issues. He mentioned that current AI systems are not powerful enough to cause large-scale harm, but future risks could increase.
He emphasized the need for governments, companies, and the technology industry to collectively mitigate potential threats arising from AI development. Collective efforts are more crucial than individual actions.
It is noteworthy that in recent months, some AI models have hacked various companies, leading to calls for slowing down AI technology development. These incidents have highlighted the risks associated with AI advancement.
Remember that at the conference, European Commission’s technology head Henna Virkkunen also expressed concerns that safety checks might be overlooked in the race to develop advanced AI. She stressed that developers should maintain control over the systems.
