Lahore: (RightNow) Lahore High Court dismisses Shaheen Travel Service’s petition. The court rules that the ban on high occupancy vehicles (HOVs) from Lahore Railway Station to Kamoke, Muridke, and Sharaqpur Sharif is legal.

Justice Ahmed Nadeem Arshad states that this ban does not violate Article 18 of the Constitution. The state has the right to regulate transport services in the public interest.

The court validates the Punjab government’s Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965, allowing high occupancy vehicles. Petitioners argued that their businesses are affected.

The court confirms the powers of the Lahore Transport Company, stating it can oversee urban transport routes. The court notes that petitioners failed to prove any legal flaw.

It is noteworthy that petitioners had complained about the unavailability of transport services on routes since 2019. The court declares the government order constitutional.
