Experts warn that social pressure on childless women can lead to pseudocyesis, causing psychological and physical symptoms.
Karachi: (RightNow) Social pressure on women without children increases the risk of pseudocyesis. This condition occurs in women who believe they are pregnant, but in reality, they are not.
According to gynecologists, pseudocyesis is a medical condition where a woman experiences physical and psychological symptoms of pregnancy. Professor Nusrat Shah stated that psychological, emotional, and sometimes hormonal factors can contribute to this condition.
Professor Shah explained that the desire for children and societal pressure can lead women to psychological distress. Some women experience mental stress due to fear of their husband’s second marriage or social issues.
Experts emphasize the importance of understanding the mental state of such women instead of blaming them. Providing psychological support to these women should also be prioritized.
It is important to note that pseudocyesis is not a real pregnancy and can be diagnosed through ultrasound. It is incorrect to solely blame the woman for infertility or delayed pregnancy.
