Singapore: (RightNow) Singapore police have arrested two Indian nationals for attempting to steal a diamond worth approximately 235,000 Singapore dollars. The incident occurred at a jewelry shop in Chinatown.

According to police, 42-year-old Manoj Kumar and his accomplice swapped a real diamond with a fake one they had prepared in India. They cleverly distracted the store manager to execute the switch.

After the theft, the suspects vacated their hotel room and booked a flight back to India, but CCTV cameras recorded their crime. Police swiftly acted and arrested them at Changi Airport.

The case reached Singapore’s court, where one suspect received a sentence of 2 years, 2 months, and 2 weeks in prison. The trial for the second suspect is ongoing.

It is noteworthy that the suspects came to Singapore specifically for this theft and had planned their escape in advance. The diamond was recovered following their arrest.
