Washington: (RightNow) US President Donald Trump has imposed a 50% tariff on several Canadian products. The tariff will take effect in the next 30 days. Wine, hockey equipment, and cement are among the products affected.

According to US sources, President Trump cited Canada’s discriminatory practices against American alcohol, automobiles, and dairy products as the reason for this move.

The Trump administration justified the tariff using a section of the 1930 Act. This action could lead to increased tension in trade relations between the US and Canada.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney called the move unilateral, stating that Canada supports free and transparent trade. He emphasized that Canada will take all possible measures to strengthen its position.

It is noteworthy that due to previous trade disputes, a 35% tax is already imposed on Canadian imports, with tariffs of 25% on auto, steel, and aluminum products.
