Edinburgh: (RightNow) The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved significant changes to the formats of the One Day International (ODI) and T20 World Cups. These changes aim to make cricket more exciting and provide emerging teams with more opportunities.

The 2027 ODI World Cup will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, featuring 14 teams. A new three-stage system, including a round-robin super series, has been introduced to reach the finals.

The 2028 T20 World Cup will take place in Australia and New Zealand with 20 teams. After the group stage, there will be a Super 10 stage with two groups of five teams each, where a new eliminator stage has been introduced.

According to the ICC, the new formats aim to keep the competition exciting until the final stages and provide more opportunities for emerging teams. This will increase the thrill of global events.

It is noteworthy that these changes were approved at the ICC’s annual general meeting to offer cricket fans a more engaging experience. The new formats will be implemented in upcoming World Cup tournaments.
