A South Korean study reveals paper straws may harm the environment more than plastic, questioning eco-friendly ideas.
Seoul: (RightNow) A South Korean study reveals that paper straws may have a greater environmental impact than regular plastic straws. This finding raises questions about eco-friendly concepts.
According to the study, the use of paper straws causes 2.23 times more damage to the ozone layer. Biodegradable and Bio-PE straws also showed higher impacts.
South Korea’s Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment compared four types of straws: regular plastic, paper, biodegradable, and Bio-PE.
Experts emphasize the need to review policies. It is suggested to limit straw supply and provide them upon request.
It is noteworthy that while examining the environmental impact of straws, recycling difficulties were also observed, which could lead to environmental harm.
