New Delhi: (RightNow) Police in the Indian capital cracked down on ‘Gen Z’ protesters at Jantar Mantar. Dozens of students and political leaders have been arrested. The protesters were demanding the resignation of the Indian Chief Election Commissioner.
Police arrested protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar, including members of the Cockroach Janata Party and the All India Students Association. Delhi Police have imposed Section 163, banning large gatherings.
Protesters allege that the Election Commissioner manipulated voter lists in favor of the BJP. The government and the Election Commission have denied these allegations. Roads to Jantar Mantar are blocked, and heavy security is deployed.
It is noteworthy that the Cockroach Janata Party is also protesting at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. They plan to spread demonstrations to other parts of the country. Entry and exit points of 11 Delhi Metro stations have been closed.
The Cockroach Janata Party is a ‘Gen Z’ movement that emerged due to unemployment and exam paper leaks. This movement gained national attention after the Education Minister’s resignation.
