London: (RightNow) A study from the UK warns that consuming very hot tea or coffee can increase the risk of esophageal cancer. The research analyzed data from 980,000 individuals who were fond of hot beverages.

The study revealed that those who drink very hot tea or coffee have a threefold increased risk of esophageal cancer. In 2024, there were 21 million cancer cases and 9.8 million deaths reported.

Researchers stated that beverages hotter than 70 degrees Celsius affect esophageal cells, raising the risk of SCC cancer. This study was published in the International Journal of Cancer.

Consuming very hot beverages can be harmful to health in the long term. Experts advise cooling them before drinking to reduce the risk.

It is noteworthy that in 2016, the World Health Organization also warned that very hot beverages could cause cancer. Further research is needed to confirm the risk.
