Floods in Gilgit-Baltistan have blocked roads, isolating local communities from other areas.
Gilgit: (RightNow) A cloudburst in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Ghizer district has caused severe flooding, blocking the Karakoram Highway and several other roads. Agricultural lands, homes, and electricity supply have been damaged.
After heavy rains, sudden floods wreaked havoc in Nobahar village, damaging the Gush Gush Jamaat Khana. The area’s crops and fruit-bearing trees have also been affected.
The flood has closed the road from Emit to Burjungle, and the electricity transmission line has been damaged. The road closures have isolated the local population from other areas.
Affected residents have appealed to the authorities for road restoration and immediate aid. The administration stated that restoration work on the Karakoram Highway is ongoing, and tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel.
It is noteworthy that incidents of flooding are increasing in Gilgit-Baltistan due to rains. Experts warn that climate change is heightening the risk of severe natural disasters in the region.
