Karachi: (RightNow) Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a nationwide strike on September 3. The party’s leader, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, stated that sugar prices have surged following the approval of its export, further increasing the cost.

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman accused the government of raising petrol prices despite sufficient storage. He claimed that the government’s collusion is affecting the public, and the continuous rise in petroleum prices is unacceptable.

He further mentioned that inflation is burdening the public while the government provides benefits to the affluent. He questioned how the poor can survive if bread costs 20 to 25 rupees and urged the government to abolish taxes.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader emphasized that this movement represents the public, youth, poor, and middle class. Various sectors, including lawyers, are supporting the strike.

It is noteworthy that a sit-in against petroleum levy, extortion tax, and IPP agreements has been ongoing in Karachi for 17 days. Jamaat-e-Islami workers are also holding a sit-in in Lahore.
