Srinagar: (RightNow) Yasin Malik denies murder charges in court, stating readiness to accept the death penalty if convicted.

Malik submitted a 25-page affidavit denying involvement in the murder of Kashmiri Pandit nurse Sarla Bhatt. He declared he would not face court proceedings.

Sarla Bhatt was killed in the early 1990s. Malik claims he was severely injured during an Indian forces raid on April 8 and was not involved in the murder.

In May 2022, the NIA demanded the death penalty for Malik in a terrorism financing case. He rejected the plea for mercy, leaving the decision to the court.

On May 25, 2022, the court sentenced Malik to life imprisonment, while the NIA appealed for the death penalty in Delhi High Court.
