PTA issues warning to block WhatsApp accounts on inactive SIMs, urging users to transfer accounts to active numbers to avoid fraud.
Islamabad: (RightNow) The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned WhatsApp users. Accounts on inactive or canceled SIMs may be blocked.
According to PTA, WhatsApp accounts on inactive numbers are vulnerable to fraud and illegal activities. Consequently, action is being taken against such accounts.
The authority has instructed users to link their WhatsApp accounts only with active and in-use numbers. Canceled numbers being reissued pose a risk of personal information misuse.
PTA advised users with inactive numbers to use WhatsApp’s ‘Change Number’ feature to transfer accounts to new numbers. These measures are crucial for digital security and data protection.
It is important to note that this step by PTA aims to enhance the prevention of cyber fraud. Users are urged to check their SIM status and transfer accounts to active numbers.
