The court has ordered the federal government to submit a new response in the Meesha Shafi case, challenging Section 20 of PICA as contradictory to Article 19.
Islamabad: (RightNow) The Federal Constitutional Court has ordered the federal government to submit a new response in the Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar case. The court has postponed further proceedings on the matter.
A two-member bench of the court heard Meesha Shafi’s petition, in which she challenged Section 20 of the PICA (Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act) law. Meesha claims this section contradicts Article 19 of the Constitution.
The court remarked that the Additional Attorney General cannot represent both the federal government and the FIA simultaneously. The court has instructed the government to submit a response with new guidelines.
Meesha Shafi requested the court to dismiss the case against her, stating that the FIA’s actions are against legal requirements.
It is noteworthy that Meesha Shafi accused Ali Zafar of sexual harassment in 2018, after which Ali Zafar filed a defamation lawsuit.
