PTI appeals in Peshawar High Court against Governor Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, seeks larger bench.
Peshawar: (RightNow) A hearing took place against the imposition of Governor Rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) requested the formation of a larger bench in the Peshawar High Court.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and Advocate Salman Khan filed separate petitions. The petitions name the Federation of Pakistan, the President, the Prime Minister, and the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as respondents.
During the hearing, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan stated that terrorism was used as a pretext for imposing Governor Rule. PTI has consistently supported the federal government against terrorism.
The court adjourned the hearing until November 10, stating it will consider the request for a larger bench. Party Chairman Gohar Khan expressed hope for judicial relief.
It is noteworthy that a provincial assembly resolution is necessary to impose an emergency in the province. The petitioners claim this action is unconstitutional and against democratic principles.
