The cabinet committee is conducting a detailed review of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s security situation. Sources indicate that the increase in terrorist attacks and shortcomings in counter-terrorism measures will be discussed.
According to intelligence reports, there has been a 195% increase in terrorism incidents from March 2024 to September 2026. This rise poses a serious challenge to the province’s security.
The report attributes the increase in security threats to terrorist elements in Afghanistan, local facilitators, and flaws in provincial government policies.
It is noteworthy that there is a need to enhance the capacity of security agencies and implement effective counter-terrorism measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Over 9,000 police positions are vacant, and the Safe City project is still limited to Peshawar.
