Kabul: (RightNow). UNESCO has released a report on the ban on girls’ education in Afghanistan. The report states that since the Taliban’s rise to power, 2.4 million girls have been deprived of secondary education.

According to UNESCO, the number of Afghan girls missing out on secondary education has increased by 200,000 compared to last year. If the ban continues, this number could reach 4 million by 2030.

UNESCO states that education is a fundamental right for Afghan girls and women. The organization has declared the current situation detrimental to Afghanistan’s economy.

The report highlights that over 90% of children aged 10 in Afghanistan are unable to read simple text. UNESCO demands the immediate restoration of girls’ right to education.

It is noteworthy that since March 2022, girls have been barred from attending secondary schools in Afghanistan. The same year, universities were also closed to female students.
