Peshawar: (RightNow) A coal mine accident in Quetta’s Spin Karez area claimed the lives of 34 workers. Bodies of 32 workers have been sent to their hometowns, while arrangements for the remaining 2 are ongoing.

Among the deceased were three brothers and an uncle from the same family. Additionally, 22 workers from Mian Kale Pirabad in Shangla were affected. Most victims were related to each other.

The accident left many families devastated, with children orphaned and women widowed. Shangla is in collective mourning, and protests were held after Friday prayers.

Protesters demanded government protection and rights for miners. Prayers were offered for the deceased and patience for the bereaved families.

It is noteworthy that Shangla’s social leaders have called for a judicial inquiry into the incident, action against those responsible, and financial aid for the victims’ families.
