Karachi: (RightNow) Sindh faces a crisis as government-supplied flour remains unavailable. Prices have risen in Karachi and other cities.

Federal and Sindh governments’ wheat production estimates have proven inaccurate. Market stakeholders acted before the government as the shortfall became apparent.

Sources indicate Punjab has halted wheat supply to other provinces. Wheat and flour mafias have increased prices, with flour in Karachi reaching Rs 160 per kg.

Delays in Sindh government’s wheat procurement have allowed hoarders to exploit the situation. One lakh tons of wheat have been transferred from Sindh to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Influential individuals have stockpiled large quantities of wheat.

It is noteworthy that government-priced flour is unavailable in Sindh. Karachi has seen a Rs 5 increase in bread prices. Wheat in the open market has reached Rs 120 per kg.
