Beijing: (Right Now News) Recent research reveals that a virus found in shrimp and other seafood may cause a new eye disease in humans. This disease poses a risk of leading to permanent blindness.

Chinese scientists have linked the covert mortality nodavirus (CMNV) to a specific condition called persistent ocular hypertension viral anterior uveitis (POH-VAU). They have found evidence of this virus in the eye tissues of affected individuals.

The study indicates that several affected individuals recently consumed raw seafood or had contact with aquatic animals. If this connection is fully established, it would be the first source of eye disease in humans from this virus.

This virus could become a serious health issue by transferring from aquatic life to humans. According to scientists, it signifies the emergence of a new disease.

It is noteworthy that this research was published last month in the journal Nature Microbiology, which examined the virus’s effects on humans.
